This is a style of woodworking I love called Intarsia. The process starts by sketching out a pattern to cut(this particular one I referenced from online, although I have a couple in the works of my own design). I then used a scroll saw to cut out all of the individual pieces from a single piece of poplar. From there I shaped all of the pieces with a Dremel and then then smoothed them with a series of high grit sandpapers. Some of the pieces I sanded lower, and others have risers underneath them to create a 3d effect. I also used wood stain to create accents on the car. To finish the project off, I glued everything together, put a plywood backing board on it, and applied a polyurethane finish.
